World Book Day & Democracy Week 2025

11th Mar 2025

Primary 7 celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as a word.  We had words ranging from comfy, agricultural, Nike and old.  As you can see the costumes were brilliant.

Also, as part of World Book Day, Primary 7 had the opportunity to take part in the 2025 Top Children’s Author election in Mid and East Antrim.  The aim of this election was to encourage young people to have an understanding of how elections work as well as the processes of democracy, such as what factors result in people making decisions to vote for a particular individual, and how they participate in the process up to the point of casting their votes.

We had 6 Northern Ireland authors to choose from.  Hilary Bailey, Andrew Crooks, Paddy Donnelly, Marianne McShane, Ellan Rankin and Moran Sullivan.  The children read up on the authors and then cast their vote using the ballot papers provided.  The ballot box was then collected that afternoon and it made its way to The Braid centre where the votes were counted. Our favourite author was Andrew Crooks, who teaches Maths in Dunclug College.  Overall, the winning author was Paddy Donnelly who is a local author from Ballycastle.

We have since been informed that we were one of the lucky schools to receive a storytelling session for our school.
