Today, our class started looking at fractions for their new topic in maths. We began by discussing real life situations where fractions would be used and then looked at the fraction wall. We looked at what fractions are bigger, smaller or the same as and briefly looked at some equivalent fractions.
To finish the lesson the class were split into two groups. One group played ‘Fraction Tetris’ where the aim was to combine fractions to make one whole unit. They had to come up with as many different ways as possible using at least two different denominators. The other group went on the iPads and studied the fraction wall by building it up and also making a whole unit using different fractions.
A great start to our topic of fractions!!
